any good advice/buying guide for a 1998-2002 CLK?

i've done a lot of research, but all that i can really find is the gearboxes (auto) could do with a refresh at around 100k miles. but no idea on cotsts on getting the box rebuilt

and alot of confilicting info on MPG, etc.

so is there a good/realistic buying guide

i understands they are upto 14 year old car, and will have issues, but i would rather know about them before i look and to be able to spot them symptoms.

so any assistance will be appreciated

Not sure about a rebuild - I would imagine a typical car would go much further than 100k miles before tat was necessary - however an auto fluid change would be a good idea.

Generally they're strong, at that mileage it's te stuff previous owners are able ignore which will need sorting unless you too can live with the same gripes - rust and suspension/bushes.

I once had a 1998 CLK320 (happy memories). Wheel arch rust and MAF were the only significant issues. Both quite typical for the W208 I gather.

30mpg from the 3.2 V6 is possible on a run, sometimes even a little higher. But high 20s was more typical on mixed runs.

These days the cars are very cheap. Which means great value, but also easy for owners to then skimp on the servicing. I imagine £3k would buy a really nice 230k or 320 with FSH. £5-8k and you're talking 55AMG :) but me more discerning if you're going down that route.
