C250CDI (C320CDI & SLK350, Sold) & the Trusty Citigo
I'm rationalising my cars - shifting from 3 to 2. I'll keep my SLK, but I've a Vauxhall Meriva and a Clio 182 that I wan't to replace with 1 car.

It will need to have at least the carrying capacity of the meriva, diesel by preference and auto. Performance isn't important. Be nice if it were still under warranty, but not essential.

I'm kind of thinking that a C class estate might be the answer.

What sort of car am I going to be able to get for around 15k?

Of course, the big advantage of buying a C estate over the saloon is its country of origin.
A very practical proposition.

The saloon is made in South Africa isnt it? WHere is the estate assembled?

All estates in Germany. Some saloons in SA, others in Germany.

I can recommend a W203 estate!

My C200 estate(same engine as the C220, different map) is a diesel auto and has reasonable load capacity, although my golf clubs have to go in at an angle. They won't go straight across the boot

The economy's not bad though. Sorry for the soft piccy, the phone's camera was focussing on the cluster perspex cover, not the display proper.

It's from Manchester to London including some city centre stuff, average speed for the whole trip 59mph, average consumption 61.6mpg :D

Mine is coming up 4 yrs old, has all the mod cons and is a nice shape (I think) :)

Mine cost £12K - it did have 80K on the clock, but I was reliably informed that was a drop in the ocean compared to what a diesel of this calibre can do. Mines a C270 CDI Avantgarde. I think you could easily find one like this with lower mileage for the price you're looking at. Oh and I got 55mpg n a long run in it, so even though it' a reasonably meaty engine (for the type of car it is) it's actually good mileage, I get approx 36mpg around town
