C180 Kompressor BlueEfficiency W204
I have ordered a new MB C180 CGI W204, should arrive by end Nov 09.

I specifically asked whether it would have a 1.8 or 1.6 liter petrol engine. I was assured that it would be 1.8.

After looking, browsing, etc., I am still in doubt whether a C180 CGI W204 with a 1.8 liter actually exists. All I could find is C180 CGI W204 with 1.6 liter petrol engine.

I did go to the dealer again, and again I was assured it would be a 1.8 liter engine.

I am confused.....

I would appreciate if someone could enlighten me.

Thanks in advance

I am sure its a 1.8

Thanks for your quick response....

But, the catalogue I was given showed C180 CGI at 1597cc and not 1796cc.

Can you direct me to a site that confirms your affirmation.

Not that I don't trust you, but would like to see an MB site saying so.

Thanks again. :thumb:

The C180 BlueEfficiency does show up on MB UK as a 1.6, the 250 model is a 1.8.

I maybe wrong actually. Let me check on WIS

So, if I understand correctly CGI means BlueEfficiency....

:dk:

Correct. The new 1.6 engine is now in all the C class badged 180.
The CGI is the direct injection used in the petrol engines in the same way CDI is used for common rail diesel engines.
The Blue Efficiency is a whole package of measures to ensure economy applied to both petrol and diesel models.

Strikes me as being deliberately deceitful badging having to specify a 250 model in order to get a baby 1.8.

Did not BMW play a numbers game not so long ago. ie a 2.0 was really a 1.8. An historic 2002 Touring was really a 1.8.

It was the other way around. A 1.8 would actually be a 2.0.

The C180 Blue Efficiency is definitely 1597 ccs (that is an approx 1.6 litre engine). You can find that on the MB website under C class, vehicle information. Very little information about the engine is given. I could find nothing to say whether or not it was CGI (compressed gas ignition). Nor anything to say whether it is turbo or supercharged but usually "Kompressor" denotes supercharged. Odd though since they said in a Press release that all engines would have a turbo by 2010 so you would think all new engines would.

The only 1.8 litre petrol engine now is the so called "250CGI Blue Efficiency" which is 1796 ccs. But that costs a ridiculous £5k extra (£27,550 versus £22,530). But it does come with auto as standard.

Sad IMO to see MB doing this completely mickey-mouse naming system. And sad to see so little inforamtion about the engines on the rather poor website.

Yes, the numbers may be a little misleading, but if it is a CGI, then this makes up for it as it will be more powerful than a non CGI 1.6. So the power will be comparable or greater than the old C180 :)

On the MB UK web site in a description of the petrol engines in W204 it says:
"C 180 K BlueEFFICIENCY is joined by the new C 250 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY"

I would therefore be certain that the C180K BlueEFFICIENCY is supercharged and isn't CGI.
The C250 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY is CGI. It's also turbo (rather than super) charged, yet that isn't mentioned for some reason.

There a bit more detail on, of all places, the MB Malta website: Mercedes-Benz Malta - At a glance - Drive system & chassis

The Malta website find was a co-incidence that came from a Google search and I've just realised that the OP is in Malta.
You have to be careful comparing specs in different locations (MB Malta offer the C250CGI in manual and still list all the pervious engines) but unless there's an as yet unannounced CGI version of the C180 coming I'm not sure what he/she has ordered.

I get confused by BMWs naming. There's a 118d, 120d, and 123d - they have a 2 litre engine.

Even more confusing, the 118d today, has more power than the previous 120d.

At launch the W204 C180K was a 1.8 engine, but recently as part of the BlueEfficiency improvements they discontinued that engine and replaced it with a new 1.6 unit which promises the same engine power and better fuel economy. There is a review and more info about this here - Mercedes C180K BlueEFFICIENCY | First Drives | Car Reviews | Auto Express

The OP is in Cyprus, were they perhaps badge our C180K BlueEFFICIENCY as C180 CGI.

c180 CGI guys is either 1.6lt or 1.8lt its a choice 1.8 is their new engines that are not even in their brochures yet. i am getting my 1.8 in may.

I was confused also when ordered that C180 CGI will be 1.6 lit but it is 1.8 , 1796 in fact with more horsepower and the same emission e.t.c as the 1.6..

P.S am from Cyprus.

Got mine with full extras + panoramic roof. will post pics when it arrives.

Same stock engine just different turbo's and engine management system.

I researched the C for close to 2 years before finally settling for an E. The C180 Kompressor is a 1.6L engine while the C180 CGI is a 1.8L engine. They are both BlueEFFICIENCY models. It says in the brochure that the Kompressor is only available as a manual while the CGI is only available in auto.
