My recently purchased C180K has just started flashing all lights about 30 seconds after locking the car with the remote key. It does this with the spare key also. Unlocking the car stops it.The diagnostic display says there are no malfunctions so l can't see a fault code.
Any thoughts or is it better to book it into an MB garage for sorting.
Thanks in advance for your views

After you lock the car, how many seconds/minutes do the hazards flash for?

Sounds like the car alarm is faulty, to test it open the driver's window, lock the car with the remote then reach in the open window and open the door within about 15 seconds, if the alarm is working properly, the siren should sound for 30 seconds and the hazard should flash for 3 minutes.

Thanks Dec for your comments. I kept the car unlocked in our garage last night and came out this morning. No fault seen. Sod's law?
A few stops later after locking and unlocking still no problem, so some hidden gremlin.
I tried the check you told me about - window down, car locked and drivers door opened. The flashers operate more rapidly than normal hazard frequency but no siren heard. The hazardbutton flashes all normally.
Fingers crossed.
Thanks again Dec.

When you open the door, you triggered the alarm, it should have sounded the siren for 30 seconds and flashed the hazards for 3 minutes, so your alarm siren is faulty, that explains the original flashing fault.

You can do without a siren …no theft insurance cover... the car will work ok without it or you can replace the siren with a new one for about £100 if you fit it yourself.

Best to remove the old one just in case it is not completely dead, there is still power going to it even though it is not working properly.

The alarm siren contains the brains of the alarm system, replacement will provide you with a fully working alarm if you decide to fit a new one.

Once again Dec l am indebted to you for your further support and heads up on the problem..
I will have a look at a new siren and if l can get one easily will fit this.
The videos you loaded for me are great.
Best wishes.

Dec,
Just a note to say I bought a Siren on eBay from Yellow Seller who advertised a used one for £22. I suspect it was new and after fitting this morning it works properly re flashers and siren.
Extreemly grateful for your help.

Good result, must be used at that price, very good deal though. Always thought it a bad idea buying a used siren on e bay but may not be such a bad idea after all.
