Hi all
I'm pretty new to the Mercedes scene, my Girlfriend has just bought a 2005 C200 CDI, Every now and then it goes into what i presume is limp mode, it will not rev above 2500rpm and the auto box will not down****f. We put it on my friends snapon scanner and it says the DPF content is too high, then fault code 1664 item number n33/2 heat booster control module no signal, another fault it lists is all 4 heater plugs but i've forgot the code. We regenerated the DPF and added some cleaner to the fuel, where is the heat booster and control module on these cars? oh yeah, the engine check light seems to be missing from the dash too so :(

I had this when the car had 50K on the clock, tok it to Merc and had a bill for £1500, new particle filter and a couple of other little things.

They said that the last service the WRONG oil was put in the engine Done by a VW garage by the previous owner.

Gob smacked at the price and it took them a week.

I would try a DIY DPF change

Why the Heater boost and glow plug faults though?

Why the Heater boost and glow plug faults though?

They just fail too, lifetime is few years. Heater booster is on the engine block, and its not needed, but connector should be unplugged and sealed (sometimes heater goes short circuit and then it will draw battery empty in few hours). Of course engine warms up slower if no heater.
Glow plugs are covered in several threads, may be just control module gone, but often reason for broken module is faulty plug. And if plugs have been faulty long time, replacing may be PITA, they snap very easily.

Engine light bulb has porbaböy been removed because its on all the time with those faults.

There are some companies in UK which are doing DPF removal (need proper remapping) if you don't want buy a new one.

A failing O2/Lamda sensor will often cause what look like DPF issues, when the DPF is fine.

Just wish i'd noticed the "missing" glow plug and engine management lights before we bought it, I'm presuming the heater has been unplugged seeing as the fault comes back as no signal. Only problem is the car is located 45 miles away from me at the mo, I only have half day saturdays to play with it

Problem solved, previous owner had replaced a brake light bulb, only problem they'd replaced it with a 24v bulb, replaced with the correct bulb and no more limp mode :)
