Hello all!

Sorry to jump in with a question, but a friend of mine has just bagged himself a bargain, which has developed an annoying issue.

When you hit the pedal to the metal the engine seems to cut out, but if you lift it half an inch the power comes back. It looks like the throttle is letting go when the accelerator is at full stretch.

A diagnostic revealed there may be an issue with the potentiometer, but as a new one is allegedely £300 and he only paid £365 for the car itself, I was wondering if there was anything else to check or do first.

What do you think?
.

look around second hand and find a mate to fit it for you
if not put up with the issue really, diagnostics are usually correct especially with sometthing pin pointing it.

Looks a straight motor so might be worth just finding a second hand one or buying a new one,.

Clean the throttle housing first. Remove it to clean. It is straight forward to do.

I would think it'd have something to do with the potentiometer rather than the throttle as you can actually see it flicking down when you hit full throttle.

Is this a known issue or do you know if I can open up the rheostat and bend the arm / clean the track?

Anyone?
