Hi,

My C215 CL55 began to start intermittently 2 months ago. Sometimes it turns over and then cuts out but mostly it won't turn over. It then starts up after between 1 and 100 attempts. Generally, once it's been driven in the morning, it takes less attempts to start for any trips later that day. At first it was an intermittent issue but it's gradually worse and now it takes up to 30 minutes to start, if at all. It tends to be much worse in colder weather if that's relevant.
Also, clearing the codes does tend to improve the issue but isn't a solution.

Since the issue started we've changed the battery and capacitor in the pre-fuse box to no avail.

I've attached photos of the usual error codes that need to be cleared to give a better idea.

Has anyone come across this issue before and/or solved it?

Thanks in advance!

Harry

Hi & welcome. No idea regarding the codes but having owned a CL55 previously there are two things that quickly spring to mind: 1, CPS the crank position sensor - not too expensive or difficult to do & 2, bad earth's can cause all kinds of electrical gremlins.
FYI There is another thread on this forum that is specifically for the 215 model, you'd be better posting your issue there and some one very wise and clever will come along with a multitude of possibilities. Good luck.

Hi Matt,

Thanks for getting back to me, will check both of these. Thanks also for referring me to the 215 thread, much appreciated!

Your codes indicate a Start Authorisation issue (immobiliser).

The gear selector module is part of this start auth.

Failure of start auth will stop the engine turning over. Further investigation needs to occur there, but selector module faults are common.
