Hey everyone,

Taking delivery of my C250 CDI Bluefficiency Auto tomorrow (2012 Plate) and obviously the book figures look great (54 mpg combined) but I was just wondering if you guys could give me some ideas of what sort of Fuel economy I might really expect (and what range you get on the fuel tank - I think its 59 Litres but the VIN search comes up saying extra large fuel tank so not sure if C250 is bigger - The sales booklet says something like 59 + 8 Reserve)

My typical week is about 600 miles of which 500 miles are 10x 50 Mile Motorway at 65-70 mph and the rest is smaller short trips through a relatively uncongested town (just traffic lights) of 30-40 mph.

I had an Astra before the merc which had a book figure of 47 combined and I averaged 50 mpg but that was a manual and 2007 plate. What might I expect from the C250?

Hi Tommy, I have an 18-month old 250cdi manual and have been impressed with the economy but on sites like Fuelly, there is a wide range of actual efficienies recorded. I normally drive rather gently and about 60% on motorways, my OBC is rather optimistic (see actual figures below) but has claimed 60mpg in the first year and 62.8 during the past 6 months.

wow they sound pretty good. How many miles do you get to a tank then (and how much fuel can you actually fit in when the gauge is saying near empty?)

Tomorrow really cant come soon enough:D

Mid to late 40's for me. I've always found cars that are driven relatively hard from new give better mpg (and performance) figures later on in life.

May just be coincidence tho

That was my experience with a couple of Vauxhall Cavaliers, the first was three years old when I bought it, replaced three years later with the same model but a year old ex demo, it had nowhere near the performance of the first one. It did improve though after some long motorway runs but was never as good. So I think there is some credence in the performance depending on early usage.

I normally run it well into the orange light before refuelling when it usually takes over 60 litres. Most I've ever put in a tank has been nearly 62 litres but I probably shouldn't have taken a chance of running dry. As for range, I'm averaging comfortably over 750miles, more when nearly all driving is on m'ways.

I'm getting an average of 39mpg and the highest I've ever seen was 49mpg which I thought was a bit poor really. To be honest I don't really do long journey's so that is most likely why.

i have the C220 which is the same engine minus fuel pump and rail (Dont Quote me) or at least built very much so on the same platform, i'm getting around 35mpg around town and around 42mpg mixed driving, on a long enough motorway journey i would say high 40's.

Q for other existing owners.... on the MPG graph on the center screen, does the bar ever go about 50mpg for you?

No, not once for me, despite the mpg on the dashboard being close to 60mpg on several occasions. It baffles me.

glad thats cleared that up

It's been discussed under the 'New owner W204' thread - it seems that some do indeed display an average >50mpg. Mine doesn't, so it must be down to differences in version software.

Hi

I took my 2013 c250 CDI back to MB because of the poor fuel consumption, MB carried out. software update but it hasn't really made much of a difference!

what you class as poor?
what mileage have you done?

I've done 1700 miles now

Around town I'm getting an average of 29mpg

i think 1700 miles is too early to say.
Doesnt sound good ill give you that, two things to note...
i have started turning ECO off around town and i'm sure its resulting in more MPG and i have also started running a DTUK CRDT Box which has helped with MPG

I think the reason that the Centre Consumption graph maxes out at 50mpg is that the software on it (and on the current consumption graph on the dash readout) was originally designed for L/Km where the lower the figure is better the economy. A poor SW conversion has been down for the imperial users.

See this video from a German recording his live consumption (YouTube). The consumption graphs make much more sense and displays more accurate data.

I would be interested to know if a SW update from MB is available and improves the data displayed for imperial users.
