The exhaust on my C250 TD sport is getting a bit tatty:( , and it still has a CAT  , does anyone have a recommendation for a company to supply a Stainless replacement without a CAT? I live near Guildford in Surrey and Local would be good. Does anyone know if the exhaust on the saloon and the estate version is the same? need to know as a friend is thinking of breaking his estate and it has a stainless exhaust.

Cheers

I believe the exhaust is the same on the estate/saloon.

I have a stainless steel exhaust on my C250 fitted by Longlife in Croydon. I had the cat removed as well.

Noticable difference on power, feels more eager to go. Sounds a bit throatier on the inside, but is noticably louder outside. But i am very happy with it though!

I have had another silencer fitted FOC by them afterwards to make it quieter.

I had stainless exhausts fitted to a previous car (a 2.8i capri). It did make the car a lot noiser.

This is fine on a boy racers car but I'm not sure I would want them on a Merc.

All depends on how you want the car to sound. You ave 3 options if you go to a professional centre, loud, midsport and quiet. Quiet is the same as standard or there abouts.

I found the quiet is fine, its a bit throatier on the inside, i wouldn't say its boy racer though.

I have a midsport on the SEC, it sounds awesome. I can gurarentee no boy racer car sounds as good as this. The best bit about it is that its quiet inside the car when you have the windows shut, but outside it sounds like a V8 should.

Overall i'm very impressed with them.

That's because the W126 has quality sound proofing in the cabin. My former W126 was exactly the same and whisper quiet. On some occasions I had to think twice if the engine was running when stationary as it was so quiet.

Standard exhaust on the W126 I loved the way it sounded and the buzzing noise from the fuel pump was actually louder than the exhaust but sounded good. However, a slight blow n the back box made the exhaust sound louder and I had the back box immediately replaced with the OEM. I personally like the quiet sound.

Same exhaust for the saloon and estate.
SS is worth it if you intend to keep the car but will sound a bit more tinny.

correct me if i'm wrong, but i think the standard systems are stainless, albeit low grade.

I wish they were but alas they're not. Badly alumised mild steel is all we get.

The last owners had a Powerflow stainless de-cat system fitted to my car. It does roar when I floor it, but at least I (should) never have to worry about changing it.

Ive a remus ss exhaust on my C250 (ex jimmy) and its not noisey at all.
