How do i find out if my turbo is working? Its just like driving my old 190 250 d, lacks power on steep hills and no great acceleration.would be very greatful for any help .thanks john

The turbo should give a noticeable push at around 1800RPM+. You can hook up a boost gauge to check when driving, but maybe easier to operate the throttle under the bonnet and feel if the turbo hoses swell slightly when revved..

thank you Tiff ,but no feel or movement in turbo hoses.it must not be working.now i will have to find out why.
thanks again

Take a hose off the turbo unit and spin the impeller to check its not siezed. If it was working and you had a boost leak you'd hear it when the turbo span up.Other thing to check is the wastegate isn't stuck open, but you'd probably hear that too...

The 250td werent very fast but you should hear the turbo whined up with accelerating.

LOL, I drive a 190D 2.0- I dream of the performance of a 250TD with no turbo...

They are like the modern ones unfortunately.I had a 123 diesel for a little while, that was very slow.

Its all about averages.. hare and tortoise stuff. I never actually feel my D is that slow, even after coming from the bike. The world slows down to meet you in a 190.

I know exactly what you mean. On my old BMW R750/7 I often passed Rice Rockets that had raced past me previously as they filled up yet again, whereas my 250 mile range tank increased my average speed simply by not running out every 150 miles.

YUP! I had a BMW R1100RS (90hp), did 1018 miles through Europe in 1 day-only tiredness stopped me. Later got an RF900 (135hp) 2 hours and my knees, calves and back made me stop (in absolute agony!)
