Car
No longer a Benz...
I went out in Ace571 C350cdi last night and I have to say that I'm very impressed.. Ace is more OCD than me with his cars and you could eat your dinner off anywhere....
The power delivery of this car is amazing, build quality is beautiful, no creaks or moans... It stuck to the road like it was on rails.. He hoofed it down the local M way and at the speed we reached you would have heard a mouse fart... So quiet... His is the 125 edition and is very well specced...

An extremely capable diesel estate that would eat my 911... I hate to think what a PP C63 is like...

Cheers fella for a great test ride....

Comes to something when a C class diesal would 'eat a 911. Quality.

The C63 I agree must be silly quick. I've only been in a E55 S211 and that was awesome.

Even my barge feels pretty quick, but the AMG's must be licence losers just too easy...

OCD? Look who's talking! ;)

Filled up prior to pick you up. Post hoonage, filled up again - 29mpg. Pretty damn good given the "exercise" :thumb:

A good car. Handles, rides, comfortable, goes, efficient, practical and lots of toys to keep me busy.

Almost as good as a 335d hey mate?! :D

Much better than a 335d hey mate?! :D

Fixed that for you Ace :D

A diesel estate faster than a 911. Given the 135i thread this is going to be painful folks.

Driven a c320cdi and it did shift but I can't imagine it 911 baiting. Not where the road had bends

.

I see you've pulled the plug then Ace571, will pop over one of these weekends for a comparison test :)

I test drove a C350 CDI Estate last year and as the smallest car you can get that powertrain in, it should come as no big suprise that it is rapid.
The refinement really is quite good too, you would have to do a back to back with a sound meter to see the benefit in going up to an E, CLS or even S class running the same engine.
Because of the percieved running costs over a 220 or 250, the 350 can be picked up for a relativly bargain price once they are a few months old. I was tempted...but then I 'had' to take the company car:o

Almost?

Speaking from experience I would say it's "as good" as the 335D and in some (not all) areas, better!

It was a tongue in cheek nod to the MB v BM debate in the 135i thread ;)

Not at all.

Having owned the 335D for 4 years and 80,000 miles and now this, I feel I am probably best placed to pass comment.

The cars are equal on balance in my view but very very different. If you want pure driver pleasure where you are at one with the road and the car, the BM has it. If you want a bit more comfort, better ride and so on, the MB has it.

But at the same time, the BM did seem better screwed together.

Haven't really been involved in the other thread so can't comment.

A few of us on here now seem to have owned a 335D and now a Mercedes 350CDI 265 bhp. For me the Mercedes engine just feels very dul., I think that's mainly because the BMW revved more like a petrol engine and also for me the flappy paddles worked so much better in the BMW. The two combined added to the driver enjoyment.

As Ace says he wouldn't be far behind me.... Its a 2005 C4s Cab.... 320bhp but it's light... It does go well.... I was just very impressed with the C350 cdi...

Well I did say

So I suspect we are in agreement here

Interesting to me that you should say that you got 29mpg after giving the c350cdi a bit of 'exercise'. I've just swapped a c320cdi for a year old c350cdi and when I drive like a granny the most I can get out of it is 30mpg. Have you heard of any problems with this model, because all MB tell me is that I must have my foot down too much, which I just don't believe can be the case as I never managed to get the C320 down into even the high 30's on any journey. The most I ever got was about 53mpg from memory on a trip up to Scotland.

If you made a mistake and meant 40mpg where I've bolded your quote, then this is entirely normal for the 350 CDI engine. A little searching around on the forums will show the kind of mpg that people are getting with this engine.

Basically, if you want fuel efficiency, you should have opted for the C220 or C250.

If you value performance and refinement more, then get used to getting your wallet out.
