I took my car for a pre-MOT check and the mechanic stated that the driver side shock absorber is slightly wet (meaning a possible leak). Does it fail MOT? Also, what will be the cost to repair the shock absorber? Thanks

Didn’t the guy you presumably paid to do the check tell you?

He is going to check and get back to me. I am trying to get an advise here on the cost to replace the shock absorber.

Anywhere from £200 to £400 .

If it is slightly wet then clearly there is a leak. If there is evidence of leaking fluid then it is a fail. But if it is just a light misting on the body then it will not be affecting the performance of the SA and should not fail - you might get an advisory. Sometimes shock absorbers can deteriorate slowly, sometimes quickly so it is worth keeping an eye on. If you do replace then it is best to replace in pairs.

Spray it with Brake cleaner to remove the misting to get it through the MOT

Thanks all. I am waiting for the response from the mechanic to get the cost.

The mechanic has come back with a quote of £450 (fully fitted price) for driver side shock
At that price I would just have the one replaced, unless you are going on several track days.
I replaced a front spring on mine recently, although its preferred to replace in pairs, you cant tell or feel any difference to handling or braking.
