C class rear subframe corrosion W204 - 2024 update!

My 204 is from June 14.....got one of the last ones before the 205 to try and avoid this issue, but that didn't work!

Read and sent him a message.

Below is the response I had from one dealer, they also refused someone I know with the same issue:

'Please note that customers who have warranty/extended warranty/corrosion warranty (subject to having regular services done through Mercedes Benz) and it’s deemed a manufacturer fault then this will be covered. However, if you don’t have warranty or if it’s not deemed a manufacture fault then investigation fee is £222 for first hour (pro rata).'
Unless things have changed, validity of warranty is not subject to having the vehicle serviced at MB, according to Block Exemption Regulations.

A 2016 car will likely have a different problem, because as far as I know the original issue of rusting from the inside only affected cars up to around 2013.

The rear subframe can corrode as result of other issues such as physical damage to the undercarriage or exposure to corrosive substances etc.

Also, the cost of replacing the rear subframe shouldn't be high enough in itself to write-off a 2016 car, I suspect that the damage was more than just a corroded rear subframe?
It's not the first 2016 2016 car to have subframe issues.I do have pictures of the car that I will post when I get home to the UK.

*I haven't read the entire thread*

..but have you spoken with MB UK ? MB Croydon said that they wouldn't cover it as it didn't have full MB service history.. so I called MB UK to complain.. A few days later Croydon called me back offering everything FOC and I got a great service.. they actually replaced a couple of arms too, which I was surprised about.

Replacing 2 of the 'arms' when the sub frame is dropped is a 'no brainer'....as that is the only way to remove the bolts that hold that particular pair in place . Nice that they did them and a good result for you 👍

After months of letters to local dealer then MB Stuttgart, the latter refunded my non-MB-garage repaired subframe. Obviously no warranty on the replaced part but happy with the result. Pity it took so long for them to agree. 2011 C series saloon.

Mjs . your post is the EXACT reason anyone with a 204 that has a rotting subframe should just push and push (backed up with loads of internet forum content) to get the 'fix' done by Mercedes Benz free of charge .

They know they messed up and are in full damage limitation mode.

Had this done FOC, immediately heard a jet-like noise above 40mph. Took it to two other garages, both think it is the diff, wheel bearings ruled out. One said to take it back to MB as it was connected to the rear subframe, MB said if it is the diff it will cost £149 inspection fee.

Should i ask them to inspect their installation and will that show if they have affected the diff?

Cheers.

The diff is very tough, not sure how you can damage it while replacing the subframe? Assuming the garage checked that it has oil.

Garage thought it had been removed then reinstalled incorrectly or a bit of realignment was needed. This was from a test drive only.

Other garage put it on the ramp and gave it a turn that brought about the noise, they did not check the oil. There is no notification on the dash of low oil but I can check myself if needed?

Differentials do not normally have a level sensor.

To check the level you need to raise the car and get it level then remove the filler plug, the oil should be level with the filler hole.

Cheers, I will take it in again tomorrow for an oil check
