I have a set of Continental Conti Sport 5p fitted to my 2019 C43 AMG. They are just about worn out at less than 4000 miles is this normal? The car has only been, what I consider, subjected to normal driving conditions. Considering fitting a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 5, has anybody got experience of these, are they likely to last a bit longer?

I've ran both tyres on my C43 - I wasn't impressed with either. The Conti's were too soft, wore fast and the tread cut really easily. The Michelin's whined terribly on the rear after being half-worn, especially on smoother European roads (ruined my first trip to Germany!). So in the end I went back to the tried/tested tyres I'd previously run on my S204 - Hankook Ventus - no regrets at all.

I have Conti Sport 5's on my C43, I've done just about 10,000 miles in 3 years and the fronts are down to 3mm and due for a change.

Are they original tyres? Sounds very premature to me. How many millimetres of tread are left and is the tread depth consistent across the tread width?

If you’re not thrashing it then I would be really disappointed with anything less than 10,000 miles from a premium set of tyres, especially with it being a 4matic model.

Michelin Pilot Sport 5 only came out months ago .

Not surprised .

The tyres were fitted new by a Mercedes Benz dealership. The tread wear is consistent across the whole tyre and the same for all four tyres. The wear was pointed out to me on the recent MoT when the tester stated that all four tyres were very close to failure. Hence I have four advisories on my paperwork.

If the tread wear is even, and they are known to have definitely covered 4,000 miles from new (and not switched) then I can’t think of an explanation. I’ve never known a full set of tyres wear evenly over such a short distance.

If the new tyre depth is approx 8 -9mm, the Contis that were fitted by the dealer on my C43 have done 4830 miles and wear is down to 6mm. Wear is consistant across all four tyres but fronts are down to 5 in the middle and outer edges are 6mm. (Tyre wear data from service today).

The car is not thrashed.

Hope this helps.

The continentals are just too soft in my experience, and Pirelli are just dangerous when half worn on damp cold surfaces as far as I'm concerned.
Do you experience the 4matic tyre skip?
That'll definitely wear the fronts more.

Hi , I have the same type of tyres on my car and will change brand next time my car needs tyres.

My last set lasted about 5000 miles before root cracking was noted on the cars annual MOT.

The cars current set have done 3000 miles in 12 months and so far so good on tyre structure but I don't think great mileage is going to happen.

Generally I don't drive the car in the winter months but I will have a look at Goodyear and Michelin performance tyres.

I drive my car slowly C207E400

Hi , I have replaced my Cont 5p with Goodyear F1 Ass 5.

I'm really sad / annoyed because I really liked the Cont 5p as wet grip was superb and good breaking distance.

The Conti tyres have done a very low mileage / just over a year old and have major issues.

All four Goodyear tyres are manufactured in 2022 ( part of the condition of the order ) to the local tyre company. The local tyre company was not the cheapest but I got new tyres.

I tried a couple of larger tyre companies who could not guarantee how old the tyres would be as they come from a central distribution centre.

I always run my tyres in for the first 500 miles but I was somewhat surprised on the feedback through the steering in a few sweeping bends.

Why did I choose Goodyear. Firstly I used the recommendation from our club members of what not to buy !

A few members suggested Goodyear Ass 5 tyres and I did some research and checked Tyre Review.

All the comments generally favourable so I took the plunge and the tyres are now on my car.

I would like to thank all members for your help.

Did you not consider ps4s.

How are the new tyres compared to the old, noise level wise

Hi , yes but availability of ps4s tyres with guaranteed 2022 year date was difficult in the present supply chain issue.

Michelin did not reply to my enquiry.

To be fare I have only driven 20 miles on the new Goodyear tyres on my car so difficult to judge.

Will report back finding after a couple of hundred miles.

Goodyear replied to my question within the hour.

Hankook replied to my question within the hour.( Do not make correct size )

Hi Benz 17

Following your questions yesterday again driving slowly I found that the tyres were more compliant but that it is only driving 30 miles.
A friend of mine who owns the tyre company he asked what make of tyre I wanted , he was relieved I mentioned Goodyear for the area we live in.

As he stated Michelin are superb tyres ( he makes more money selling Michelin - yes and I do have to pay for the tyres ) in the Gloucester , Hereford and Worcester area the roads could be of a better standard and he felt Goodyear were a good comprise.

I must mention that I am a Miss Daisy type driver ( most of the time ) so my tyre needs may be totally different to yours.

Interesting Article regarding wheel size re same tyre type specification.

As stated before I will keep you posted as to my thoughts.

Hi , went out on Wednesday for my forth Covid injection into the wilds of Herefordshire. The clouds opened in that the windscreen wipers struggled but the tyres performed well.

Would have purchased the Goodyear Assy 6 but mate could not find any apart on an extended delivery.

The tyres performed well? what speed were you taking corners at to test this?

No need to do that. Of the few makers that still even mention it at all none say they need more than 150 to 200 miles max. Most are ok to use normally as soon at the mould release agent has worn off the tread....sub 50 miles for most.

Hi Benz 17

I really keep an eye on tyre pressures and without doubt the Goodyear holds its pressure far better than the Contentintal tyre.
That statement makes absolutely no sense. Can you explain how a set of tyres made by Goodyear hold pressure better, than those made by Continental? If you're losing pressure, you've got a puncture/cracked wheel etc....nothing to do with the make-up of the tyre.
