C43 Engine Temp??

C43 AMG
I've recently purchased a fairly elderly ( 1999 / 164000 miles ) C43 AMG...What a machine!! The car has good SH and runs really well......The only potential fault is that I feel it's running a little warm ( between 80 and next mark on gauge if under load or stationary ) it doesn't overheat or use any coolant. I had a C250 many years ago and this did the same thing, after replacement of most of the cooling system and much wasted cash the thing finally boiled on a BIG hill whilst towing a caravan, turned out to be the viscous fan coupling ( which was exactly what I'd suggested to the brainless mechanic doing the job in the first place ) is this a potential weak link on the C43 or should I be looking toward blocked rads, sticky thermostat etc? Perhaps the temp is normal? After all most thermostats are 88deg ish aren't they?....Any advise more than welcome, car in for major service on Tuesday ( different mechanic I hasten to add ) just want to point them in the right general direction if there is a problem perhaps????

Congratulations on your recent purchase, when my 43 still had the 43 engine in it indeed with the 55 engine the temp sits just above 80 and the next mark though it does raise everso slightly if its been idling for 10 or so minutes.

Mine which is also converted to 55 engine, runs the same temp, between 80 and the next increment. I hasn't worried me but I have noted it..

Thanks guys, much appreciated! I guess essentially the gauge itself tells you not to start panicking until 120 deg + but just used to seeing that needle sit lower on other cars I've had aside from the C250 which did turn out to be running a little on the hot side. Anyway I've just checked the viscous on tick over and it seems to be engaged pretty well....So I'll turn my attention to the tin worm issue instead!
