hi
as you can see i am a new member and new to mercedes, bmw's before fancied a change .i have ml500 52 plate and very impressed even though the reviews on this car are terrible i love it the power is amazing and i dont mind the dog in the boot .i have a little query as its also first auto transmission if i kick down the engine seems to get to revs 7000 inbetween probably 3 and 4 gear not 100% sure just seems to me as though it needs to change quicker is this normal the traction control light doesn't flash on so not spinning wheels (unless its faulty i suppose ) . its still under manufactures warranty so would rather fix it if its not right .
i hope i dont get on all of your nerves novice with cars ...
sorry in advance.

forum very helpful makes a great read

Don't know the answer - but someone on here almost certainly will! A most knowledgeable, friendly bunch.

Just wanted to welcome you to to the forum. Whereabouts are you? Can be useful info for recommendations etc.

If you use kickdown (that's foot to the floor, past the resistance point), the transmission might well drop two gears. Having dropped down, it will hold the gear until the maximum change up point (assuming your foot is still on the floor) so you could well see whatever the max revs for the 5 litre engine are.

If your foot is not right to the floor then you're more likely to get a part throttle kickdown which will only drop one gear and have a change up point below the max revs of the engine.

on the rev counter the max is 7000 but theres no rewd line to it .it sounds like when my ex used to drive my manual bm .60mph in 1st lol

Does it rev to 7000 revs? It shouldn't do! There should bee a limiter at 6000-6250.

It sounds like it may possibly be a MAS sensor fault. Its quite common, normal symptoms are that it may hold changes too long, bouce of the rev limiter without changing gear and abrupt changes.

If its the 5 speed box it can slip in 1st and 2nd. The new 7 speed can as well - but can also lock it up as well.

J.
