Can you lose a remap?

This may be a stupid question but can a remapped car lose it's new map and if so how?

The reason I ask is that my car went in for it's MOT today, had a new track rod end and they cleared (temporarily at least) the SRS warning I've been getting.

Is there anything they could have done which would have affected the remap I had done last summer?

The reason I ask is that driving it home, it fell a lot less responsive. Since the remap the throttle response has been incredibly good, it all just feels a bit softer and less sharp by comparison. Placebo effect maybe but who better to ask than you lot haha.

Was this done at an MB dealer or an indie? I think either can reload the ECU and in doing so the remap will be erased.

I would have thought that any remap would be applied to the “Read Only Memory” part of the engine management system and that fault codes would be on a “Random Access Memory”, and were the remap to be deleted the vehicle would have no engine management software to enable it to run, I sure someone more knowledgable will be along soon.

You can lose a remap but only after scn coding or software update. Not by code erasing. You can still lose adaption values of a remap ie throttle adaption or gear shift adaption but they shouldn’t have been near that with the work you describe. The throttle is self adapting so it might get better as you drive!

Software updates are a remap killer .

Had this happen on the QQ when it went in for a diesel fix a couple of years ago.

Superchips had to update and re issue their map to me, so have a chat with your mapper before and after if any update work is done coding or fixing, albeit Nissan did put an entirely new ECU map on ours and didn't just clear a code.... (though they never admitted it, but Superchips confirmed this)

Thanks for all the replies people. :)

i dropped my mechanic a text this morning and he said that the errors they'd cleared wouldn't have affected the map on the car. It's not the end of the world in that I'm pretty sure the mapper would re-apply it if there's been a problem and I'm pretty sure they wouldn't charge me again.

I have a feeling that if the throttle is adaptive the fact that it sad still idling yesterday for quite some time (shown on the trip computer) it's entirely possible it's gone into lazy mode. I'll give it a few drives and see if it perks up. :)
