Hi, on the instrument display on my car, there is a "Car ! Car" icon (see picture). What does this mean?

Waaaay too close to the car in front , normally displayed constantly on Audi`s or Golf R`s.

Faulty front distance sensor or camera if that is how the MB system works ?

As above, I think it's trying to tell you that there's a fault with the system, probably a faulty (or missing?) front RADAR detector (it usually lives behind the Mercedes logo on the front grille) - is your adaptive cruise control (aka Distronic) working OK?

I would get the car scanned with STAR, and possibly start with some software updates.
