Is Castrol Edge Professional A5 0W-30 as good as Mobil 1?

In my C270 cdi I use Castrol Edge 5W - 40..
The actual specs are as high as Mobil 1, but for some reason my car runs smoother on the castrol..
I buy mine off ebay and it works out quite a bit cheaper than the motor factors..
£55 for 2 x 4 litres last time I bought it..

I was told the "professional" was only via dealers. It's the recommended oil for my Volvo. I just hadn't heard of it before.

You can get the 'professional' online. I dont think the A5 however is the correct one for Mercedes so check what spec it says it meets.

EditL I just saw this is for your Volvo so A5 is correct.

It's been VW's own brand "Quantum" for about 5 years now. Though in all likelihood that will be made by Castrol or similar

"Professional" probably means garages buy it in 50 gallon drums at a fraction of the cost of 4 litre "retail" containers. It will be the same stuff just in a different container and cost.

Just buy GM Dexos 2 from Vauxhall parts depts, cheap good quality synth.

Dexos 2 meets MB Spec. Few people on the other side use it. Never bought it myself as you can get 5l Mobil at Costco for about the same price as Dexos 2 on ebay.

After talking to an oil industry insider who tests oils I would choose the Castrol over the Mobil.
