Hi,
The cats shot in my '94 w124 E280 estate. I need to get a replacement but really looking for the cheapest part possible as cash is tight. Has anyone any ideas where I may get one from - I'm based in the UK?

Thanks Toby.

PS. Looking for a 5th 8 Hole so I can refurb the others - what size are they (offset and all that)?.

You know what they say about cats? Aftermarket if you're selling the car, Mercedes if you're keeping it. Evidently aftermarket cats don't tend to last more than 2 years

You'll often find 8-holes on eBay. It'll be 6.5 x 15 or (rarely) 7 x 15 with ET 41. Not that many cars have 5 alloys - quite a few have 4 alloys and a steel spare with 5 steel-wheel-only bolts

Thanks kth286 but you've done so many posts I can't find it!
Can you help further with a link?

Is the E280 cat the same as all other facelift W124's or do they vary between 4 cylinder etc?
thanks Toby

What's gone on your current cat - rattling, failing emmissions test or is it leaking/holed?

I'd probably compromise for a recent, s/h OE MB cat as opposed to a cheap one - they always sound tinny and as Nick has pointed out, rarely last long = false economy in the long term.

Hi, my current one scraped through the emissions test with a wink from the tester. It rattles like hell and had a section replace earlier this year and there were bits of ceramic type stuff that fell out.
If I can get a cheap one to last 2 years i'd be happy.
Thanks for your help.

Hi again, would 8 holes from a 500SEC fit my E280?
