CD Laser replacement

Anyone ever had to replace the laser on a Becker/MB unit? My APS30 has been refusing to read any cds whatsoever. Just get the "CD DISC ERROR" in the display. Local auto hi-fi shop (Becker dealer) reckons it'll be £100-£150 for a replacement laser! And... it may have to go to Becker UK then Germany then back again. Hassle indeed. Anyone had similar problems with this or other Becker units?

Had this problem with an alpine model some years ago(bought for £400).It needed a new laser after 3 years at a cost about £100.Could have bought a cd changer and used that instead(more expense) but never bothered as cd radios had come down a lot in price since buying the alpine and ended up buying another cd radio.

My COMAND unit was only four years old when it stopped playing the navi CD and would only play the first half of a CD...

I know it's not the same thing, but Braybrooks sorted out the replacement of the laser on my COMAND unit. If I recall correctly, that cost about £130. In total they had my unit for about a week - I'm not sure where they sent it.
