Can anyone please enlighten me as to how to remove this item from the glovebox?

I have tried gentle force but it refuses to move, rather than employ a "bigger hammer" technique, any useful tips would be greatly appreciated?

Slide a thin cutlery knife in the top to release the clip.

After you get it out, shave off the retaining clips on the outer piece and the actual magazine itself (it slides out backwards) it will make future removal much easier.

For info that actual magazine is common to many other marques, only the surround is a bespoke Mercedes part.
