Good day everyone

I have a issue trying to acquire a Certificate of Conformity for my Vito 111 CDI reg 83-BV-TH 2005, this is for the homologation in Portugal. I bought the vehicle in Netherland and would like it matriculated into Portugal. Having scanned the internet it seems there are plenty of companies out there making many promises and charging lots of money for a single sheet document.
I tried Mercedes online but there site says not available for the Vito, please is there anyone with know how on the simplest and fastest way to acquire this document.
I was advised to acquire the document from Portugal Mercedes but all they did was charge me €100 and stamp a existing application form, the IMT in Portugal say the document must come from the country the vehicle was first registered or from germany.

Many thanks for taking the time to read this.

Pete

The vehicle would have been supplied with a CoC when it was new, so if that's now missing you will need to purchase a replacement copy.

Portugal IMT are correct: You will need to get the CoC either from MB Netherlands (assuming that is where the vehicle was originally registered when new), or MB Germany.

Hello

Can anybody supply a phone number or contact details for Mercedes to obtain a Certificate of Conformity, as the website numbers do not work.

Thanks

You could try emailing MBUK Customer Service at customerservice.uk@cac.mercedes-benz.com to see if they can assist, or call them on +44 1908 245000

If Stphil's numbers do not work then all I can say is that over the last two or three weeks I have used it several times

This is another email address I have used but do not hold your breath waiting for a reply. You could email them and ask if that is the right department and if not hope they put you through

homologation.mbpc@daimler.com

You can check how much it would cost buying a copy online, e.g. from here:

Thanks for your replies.

I tried emailing companies and purchasing online, apparently according to the last company I tried to buy through, there is a problem at Mercedes-Benz with certain vehicles Vito, Viano etc and the emissions reading on the certificate.
I have now emailed Mercedes direct and after a couple of weeks they have put my request through to the department that specifically deals with the homolgaiton certificates. So I live in hope.

Thanks for your help I may be back.

Please do let us know how you get on. While your specific situation isn’t commonplace, I’m sure someone else out there will benefit from the knowledge you gain.

The email address I gave you was for me brilliant. They explained in detail everything I wanted including the email addresses of the government departments. One thing they told me got me interested in your situation.. If you are not the importer of this vehicle, then me being me, I am just curious as to why you need it :) Apologies for my being curious but I do have a sort of vested interest

When the car was new, the German Certificate would have been placed in the glove box with the owners manuals. It is a German document entitled EG-Übereinstimmungsbescheinigung, in a bright yellow A5 sized cardboard folder.

Hi

I imported the vehicle in July this year and set a solicitor on with the task of matriculation, but he gave up trying to get the COC after acquiring the wrong certificate from Portuguese Mercedes costing 100€ I bought the van in the Netherlands off a dealer who supplied a certificate of compliance, saying that was all I needed to import the vehicle, not so. I have since been in touch with the dealer he is not interested. I purchased the van and drove it to Portugal simply because the cost of a van here is far too high for anything decent.

Wow,
I am slap bang in the middle of buying a car from Belgium. Apologies for being so nosey but was your vehicle a new, unregistered van and if so if that CoC was not in the glove-box then whey not.

Hind sight is a useless gift that most white-collar workers seem to thrive on. Reading your post is sadly making me glad I am using an importer to deliver our vehicle to our homew address.

My thoughts on your predicament is that all 'foreign' built vehicles need documentation to be imported and as long as your van was right-hand drive with the correct speedometer, headlights, brake-lights etc, then it should have the required documentation.

As I said previously, after reading your post, I contacted Mercedes and got the following reply. You will see the paragraph I posted but this is the full post of any use?

To import a new or used car from a European country into the UK the following actions need to be completed:-

Apply for a NOVA (Notification of Vehicles Arrival) from HMRC within 14 days of import and pay any VAT due
Order a Car Importation pack from the DVLA
Use the Certificate of Conformity to apply for a Mutual Recognition Certificate from the VCA
Complete a V55/5 DVLA Registration form
Supply the relevant personal documentation to DVLA i.e Proof of Ownership and Identity

These are the links to the government websites :-

Importing vehicles into the UK

Log in to use the Notification of Vehicle Arrivals (NOVA) service

http://www.vca.gov.uk/other/vehicle-importing-mu.asp

Commission notice / mutual recognition: passenger cars

Any Mercedes-Benz retailer can carry out the work required by the VCA and provide the evidence for the Mutual Recognition Certificate.

NB. When the car was new, the German Certificate would have been placed in the glove box with the owners manuals. It is a German document entitled EG-Übereinstimmungsbescheinigung, in a bright yellow A5 sized cardboard folder.

Hi glojo

The van is a 2005 Vito 111 CDI imported by myself with a firm belief that it would be easy enough to matriculate, and it would be if only I could get Mercedes to supply a COC. It is not being imported or exported from the UK, it is being imported into Portugal from the Netherlands. I have approached Mercedes UK they informed me I must deal directly with Germany or the Netherlands where I purchased the van. I am now waiting to hear from Mercedes I signed up to there website. I have checked the documents in the van unfortunately no COC.
I will if I ever import again insist on having a COC with the vehicle when purchased.

Regards Pete
