Hi,

My car is due for a year five service next month, and I'd like to get all engine and gearbox firmware updated to the latest versions. Any idea how much MB charge for this?. I might also get SatNav maps updated - what does this cost?.

Regards,
Alex

A dealer would typically charge £55 for TCU or ECU software update.

But if you want all of the available software updated on your car... then you'll need to find a friendly specialist :) ... because dealers are unlikely to have much patience for this sort of thing.

And as per DSM10000's post above, both PCS in Horndean and Comand UK in Lightwater are highly recommended :thumb:

Hmm.. I think I'll let my dealer update the ECM and the TCU - during this service they will change the transmission oil and filter, so better to let them do the TCU and adapt it afterwards. I don't care particularly that the cigarette lighter control module (or whatever!) is running the latest firmware, so I'll talk to command or PCS about map updates.

Can I ask my dealer to produce an inventory of firmware versions and check against the latest? I guess it is the updates that tie up a bay for longer than they would like.

Thanks and regards,
Alex

Maybe take out a MB service plan?? Then your covered for everything?

Upgrades aren't essential so probably not covered...

I paid £50 for TCU upgrade at PCS Horndean and I think the dealer charges up to 3x that.

If it’s in for a service just mention in conversation that they’ll be checking for and installing software updates. Some will do it as part of the service, especially if it’s a big one FOC

The general dealership ethos is if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Why risk screwing up an update, so unless you mentioned you have an issue they are very unlikely to perform any updates not mandated by MB.
