How can you check the oil level on a C55 manually? The computer is doing my head in, there is something wrong with it, its telling me I need to top up 1litre and it had an oil change at MSL last Friday, its done about 150 miles since then, if that.

I had the valve covers changed, as well as the small ones on top at MSL, so its not leaking from those.

There is a little coming from the transmission, should I get this sorted ASAP if it will get worse? Its certainly not 1 Litre, like the trip is telling me.

Stick .5 of a litre in. The default is always to add 1 litre.

Toucan buy an eBay dip stick. However the computer is never far out.

Doesn't make sense though.

Its just been serviced and it already needs 0.5 litres? That's a huge amount, it would be everywhere, I think the computer is wrong.

Might get the transmission looked at.......Has anyone else had this done? Looking on the US forums a few have had problems with leaks from the tranny.

It may have been slightly under-filled? Not a bad thing as over-filling can cause major damage.

As posted above, dipsticks are available on ebay or from the likes of Sealey. Just make sure you get the correct one...

A leak from the transmission isn't going to affect the oil level in the sump.

As the others said, get a dipstick.

I'm sure you mentioned this when you joined the forum and I suggested you add only 0.5ltr and recheck it?

The sensor has no sense. It's binary. On or off. A dip stick gives you wiggle room, high to low. When serviced it is likely to have been filled to the sensor level. Any variance it will say add 1 litre or remove 1 litre

From the WIS doc on Oil sensor function..

"The measuring range for the oil level is 80 mm (normal level and ±40 mm) for a measuring accuracy of about ca. ±3 mm"

The signal is PWM and sent to the ME control module and then via CAN to the instrument cluster

On my CLS the top up message could be for 1, 1.5 or 2litres. Overfill is simply "Reduce oil level"

If the OP had no problems with oil level before the service. then as others already mentioned it's most likely only just enough oil was added at the service.
Unless of course there is an obvious engine oil leak.

Was having problems before, hence why I got the covers done, but there fine now.

I took your advice AMGeed, I always put .5 less than what it says.

I don't mean transmission fluid mate, ive been told its from engine oil.

Meh ill top it up half a litre tomorrow, and monitor it, see how I get on.

Update:

Topped it up with the 1/5 litre that was needed when I made this thread. Ive done exactly 141 miles since I topped it up, and the computer is telling me it needs 1.5Litres.

Surely the sensor is borked or something is catastrophically wrong.:dk:
