Hi, first time posting and I couldn’t find the answer elsewhere but sorry if I’ve missed it!

We have a 2014 E-Class Estate AMG and find that the slightly scooped rear seats mean that a rear facing child seat pitches the baby forward too much. It’s not too bad in our Maxi-Cosi Pebble 360 but the larger Pearl (which she will grow into soon enough) just pitches her too much and causes her head to fall forward. We can’t counteract it by propping up at one end because of the rigid isofix bars, likewise lowering the bar that props up the other end.

Any suggestions for alternative models that have worked for people are welcome!

Ta!

I have a 2015 E Class estate and we have used a Joie Spin 360 (not sure of the name but it’s something like that!). It has removable padding which allows it to be used with small babies. Removing the padding as the child grows means it can be used with larger kids. I think we used it up to about age 4 but it obviously depends on the size of the child.
It can be used facing forward or backwards, and also has the bonus that because it spins you can have it facing towards the door which makes it much easier to fasten the child in and then spin the seat to the desired position. It also has a recline position.

Hi, there is some reasonably priced belt strapped type non isofix car seats allowing for manual prop to level car seat for rear facing arrangement so that head is not pushed forward. Its very important for the head to be supported for new born. Unfortunately the seats on the w212 are a bit slanted, so some of the isofix struggle because of the deep base and can also leave indentation on the leather. Once the litte person is ready for forward facing, you can then switch back to the isofix to see if the head feels supported or stay with the non isofix seat. It's also good to put rubber mat over the seat for the non isofix versions to prevent an indentation to the leather seats. Unfortunately not all isofix work well on the w212, it's a bit of trial and error to find the right one. Halfords are pretty good for this, and if it's isofix seats you need, could try other brands of isofix seat. Its a bit of an expensive exercise but the hardware needs to be spot on for safety sake 👍

We had the same problem when our daughter reached the age of moving up from the Maxi-Cosi Pebble. We ended up going to a car seat specialist and trying out various different seats. The one that worked was a Cybex Sirona. Like the Joi mentioned earlier, it spins round so can be used rear facing or front facing, as well as facing the door for easier access when getting the child in and out.

This was 8 years ago and models change, but at the time it was the one that provided the greatest angle to compensate for the seat slope when used rear facing. The seat itself has a range of recline settings on its base (5 if I remember correctly) so it was easy to get the best position.

It’s an expensive seat for just a few years, but nothing matters more than the safety of our children.
