Our 2004 w211 estate has atrocious dipped beam lighting. Has anyone tried the route of fitting extra driving lights eg Cibie/Hella or other?

Have you most probable halogen or HID ?

The only problem is that extra driving lights can only be used on high beam .

Have the headlamps lenses faded? If so polishing them will help a great deal.

How old are the bulbs? Both HID and Halogen bulbs lose output with time.

If Halogen then replace them with (road legal) increased output bulbs such as Osram Nightbreakers or some from the Phillips range.

Accessory driving lamps are not the answer as stated as they are /were designed to operate with high beam, plus you may find wiring them into the existing CANBUS circuits difficult. 👍

Strange, mine has the brightest headlights of any of our cars (Audi Q5, VW Polo, and Ford Fiesta) however it does have the xenon headlights - not sure if that affects things. Mine would appear to have different bulbs as they don’t match the colour of the side/fog lights, so may be worth getting some better bulbs and my lens are very clear so maybe try polish them too.

Xenon lights are noticeably "whiter and brighter" than conventional lighting of that era. Although they also fade with time.

Your other lights will likely be Halogen H7 (Main beam) or standard incandescent light bulbs elsewhere 👍
