CKS Performance.....why so bad?

Just wondering why people seem to suggest staying away from CKS

Is it high prices/poor quality/service/attitude that puts people off?

I was looking at an exhaust mod they do for my car (W211 E500) so wondered if it was decent quality - or should I spend more and use remus or eisenmann?

W211 E Class CKS Quad tailpipe Exhaust E280 E320 E350 E500 E550 E55 E63

Thoughts please

Thanks

Go with Remus and Eisenmann (if you can still buy the parts, both might be obsolete for the 211). The CKS quality is shockingly poor. You can see it from the picture. Those almost 90 degree angles made of cut pipe alone are cringeworthy. I doubt CKS make any of that stuff themselves, unlike Remus or Eisenmann.

PS. I've had a full CKS exhaust on my 211 when I bought it. It came with an invoice. I don't doubt Mr CKS makes a decent living. Overpriced junk. I chucked it and made my own.

Thanks Alex, fair comment - both can still be bought (from Germany) for circa £800/£1000

CKS are also bloody expensive!!

They buy a lot of stuff in from elsewhere, so for the odd item they are ok (seen same parts in pictures on the US forums through well respected vendors, but CKS just add their logo). But in general with all the negative feedback I wouldn’t use them, apart from maybe mail order.

I bought a front splitter for my car from them, it was listed as an item designned for my car but there was no way it was going to fit, called them and they said to send it back to get a refund and i had to pay the postage for an item that did not fit my car!

I’ve used these guys twice and they were great!

Same as me the, one was custom exhaust for my old MR2 turbo, it made it sound like a 1960's Ferrari. Second was a nice back box upgrade to my CLK 500 which was quiet unless on full throttle when it really came alive.

Just curious to what you are after. Is it the quad set up and more throaty exhaust tone or something else. The 500 exhaust comes with one pipe each side doesn't it?
I'm sure one member on here with a 500 w211 wanted more note from his exhaust and done a cracking job in it.

Have to admit the w211 v8's are very very quite it's good in many ways but if you do require that little more throaty v8 there has to be mods done.

Resonator delete along with secondary cats with X pipe in place is a great sound that what I have on mine now after much faffing around.

I've had Remus boxes on an e39 m5 many years ago and boxes alone didn't make that much difference to be totally honest and they are not cheap.

Like many members have given me advise on here go with the res and cat delete and see how you find this. Then if not ideal for you try source some rear boxes c63 cls boxes are apparently more vocal than e55 so quite few options to consider.

Good luck with it all the same will be interesting which you go with.

just a question.... ive done the res delete and it sounds good but i don't want it mad sound... how much different will it be with the secondary CATS deleted too?

Yes just a more throaty V8 note - its way to quiet - I understand it's more of a luxury car, but just something with a bit more presence

Has to be off the shelf stuff, or simple mods as no real specialists who can do this sort of stuff here

It will definitely make a difference if you personally like it or not it's hard to call. It definitely brings the note alive as such. Much more vocal. There are quite a few videos on YouTube that can give an idea what it's like. I do find videos not to give the full story but do help a little.

I know exactly what you mean I was in the same boat. I went a few ways with mine long story be honest. In finish went with cat delete resonator delete X pipe and c 63 boxes sounds superb for my liking no drone. Loud on wot but quite under light throttle medium throttle.

Whatever way you decide you will need mods done. It you go off the shelf route you will need the boxes wealded to the car which could not so straight forward. A quite costly option Also.

It could be a case of planning a trip to head to a more specialist with exhaust fabrication.
Not totally sure but PCS horndean wouldn't be to far a trip for you. I'm not sure if they undertake exhaust mods.

Like said if your local exhaust shop cab do a small few mods in removing secondary cats and resonator and make up an X pipe you wil be in near perfect place regarding exhaust tone/noise.

This is what I was looking at - it looks like you can cut off old boxes and these can be fixed with clamps...…
