MoT history, Service history, ownership history, exterior & internal bodywork, fresh paint ? Was it an import ?

Suspension lifting and dropping correctly when you switch from Comfort to Sport?

Braking in a straight line? (Usual stuff)

Every electric item works...

Generally should drive absolutely Limousine gently,

Rust "shouldn't" be a significant problem unless it's lived by the coast.

Thanks for the advice I hope it’s a good one when I view it

I owned the same model for over 3yrs, all the above advice is sound. Things that I would also look out for include the turbo wastegate's on idle, they are visible on both sides from above and they should not be 'fretting' and pulling back and forth. They should move to the closed position on start up and stay there, otherwise could indicate potential turbo or vacuum line issues. These engines can be quite 'laggy' when driven normally but should boost strongly under harder acceleration. Check the level and colour of the ABC fluid if you can, should be a mint green colour. Good luck 👍

I am looking to get it mapped and catted and would maybe get a different back box where the rear pipes look a bit better and will sound meaty when needed but no motorway drone or it will spoil what it is .. any suggestions ?

Old Sceptic comment: Drive it to Germany and give it a blatt on the unrestricted Autobahn first, just to check that you need 630 bhp instead of the standard 430.

You’ll soon see if you need the remap to get to 155mph that bit faster.

I know, but just want to get the most out of it without having to floor it and want a bit of a meatier exhaust note when it’s worked hard

A different exhaust is a thing in itself.

If you know a road in the UK that needs more than 430bhp, do share. 430bhp is plenty even on the Isle of Man.

Which is not to say that all the bells and whistles on a proper CL63 aren't well worth having: steering, handling, brakes etc....

I'm saying "give it a bit of stick and see how it feels" before putting in the order. It's not the same as an extra 100bhp on a 335i.

I hear what your saying, I chipped my 740d and it was a lot better just thinking it would be even better on the 4.7 turbo

Well the M2 from Bluewater towards the Kent coast has no cameras and when it’s empty you can keep it practically in a straight line if you move between lanes .. had my old chipped e46 m3 off the clock on it once 😬

I looked at the cl63s but they are about double what I have paid for the cl 500 of the same age and it’s not double the car
Yep, that's the usual AMG premium across all the models: C/ E / S / SL etc.

A motoring journalist, LKJ Setright argued that the "next down" model is the best one to get, in terms of spec and VFM

300 bhp to 400bhp on a BMW taxi ? Worthwhile maybe

460bhp up to 660bhp: a different league but how often will you really use it?

Can you really get the 430ish of the CL500 up to 660bhp easily??for
You're right. I'm wrong on both counts.

Standard spec is 429bhp. (I confused it with the 4.6 litre). And a typical remap is more likely to 530bhp.

I'll still say "rag it first, before signing up for a remap," just because 429 bhp isn't slow for what is really "just" a two door S class.

When was that? There are deffo cameras there and were when I left the UK in 2007. There were far more when I went back last year.

Mind you, I was on French plates. 😉
