Hi all.

I replaced a faulty front parking sensor with a brand new non genuine item.

Previously I lost the OEM sensor which of course stopped the others from working too.

Now the sensors seem to have a mind of their own, they work but the audio side of them doesn't really do anything until I'm literally right on top of any obstacles. I only paid £20.00 for the sensor as a genuine Mercedes item is £126.00 inc vat.

Any suggestions, or should I just swallow it and buy an OEM sensor?

The UK part number is A0015427418

Cheers all.

I suspect it may need to be coded/calibrated to the car. I assume you fitted it yourself? I would recommend taking it to an independent specialist with star diagnostics to get it checked out. If they can't get it to work then you may need to stump up for an OEM part. Mercs can be quite fussy when it comes to using non OEM electrical parts such as sensors etc.

I thought this how they are supposed to work? Certainly in my Mercs the audio didn't kick in until quite close to the obstacle, which I liked, as constant beeping would get on my nerves.
Does the visual indication work correctly?

Hi there.

Thanks for your reply.

The visual indicators work fine.

The audio from the sensors worked way before the current audio does, I have to be literally foot or so away when it kicks in now, where as previously the audio came on way sooner with the OEM sensor fitted.

Cheers.

I imagine the audio alert is generated by the PTS ecu, not the sensor, so I can't see why it would change?

I had the same issue on your car's sibling (2001 S500 W220). the problem was the main battery.
