Hi all just been to Stockport Mercedes dealership about my air con not working, it has been gassed a while ago but that goes within a week so I know there is a problem, they told me that in order to find the problem they would gas the system up with nitrogen and use a sniffer is this something new as I thought they used a dye, the problem I'm having is they said they would have to drop the front bumper (not sure if that's needed) in order to do a proper check this would only cost about £500 plus another £500 for the condenser if its needed, does any one know of a good place to take my car around the south Manchester area also does anyone have an idea of the costs involved? and do you need to remove the bumper to replace the condenser any help and comments will be much appreciated.

I am sure alabassi will answer your question better than I can,

In the meantime press the cabin filter and rest buttons at the same time for 5 seconds and the car will do a diagnostic check, take note of the fault code and post on here I will let you know what problem is.

Press auto left button then auto right to clear faults.

Hope this helps, the above poster was most helpful to me when I had a problem with my aircon.

Forgot to put with engine running do the above

You do not need to take the bumper off to replace the ac compressor, you access it from underneath the car.

hi thanks for the reply its not the compressor I was referring to it was the condenser on the front of the car, can they check for leeks on the condenser "back and front" while its on the car or would they have to remove the bumper to take the condense out to check it

Yea probably easier to take the bumper off although it’s not an involved job!

If the condenser is leaking there will be a damp oily patch where the PAG oil has blown out with the gas. Manifold gauges and vac test will detect leaks.
