CL63 AMG
Hi ... bit of advice on where to start looking!
Recently had the (amber/yellow) ‘ABC malfunction’ come up on the dash. It has continued to do this each time the car is started after approx 50 meters.
The car seems to jack itself to the maximum height (front and back) and stay there (even when parked) In motion, the ride is so bouncy it’s hilarious!!!
As soon as the car is started (before the warning comes up) it is possible to press the button on the dash (ground clearance) but the car just drops a little bit (exact opposite of what should happen!!!) Once the warning has come up button is none functional.
I’ve now read a lot of info but most issues are with cars ‘sinking’ and the corresponding fixes.
I’ve obviously taken on board the issues with dirty (degrading) fluid and importance of changing it. (And will do that anyway.)
I’ve come to the following conclusion myself but more than willing to be corrected!:-
- probably not pump as car gets pumped up to maximum height.
- probably not valve blocks as car does not sink (although can they get stuck not letting fluid out?!)
- probably not accumulators either.
- no signs of any leaks or seeps
My thoughts are maybe the ride height sensor(s) faulty .... where are these?
Any thoughts greatfully received, many thanks in advance.

Hi—- I’ve found the problem, so just wanted to post the outcome in case anybody should ever have the same issue.
Upon removing the n/s/r wheel found the end of the linkage arm that goes from the body height sensor to the axel had snapped off!!!! On checking the o/s/r also, found it was about to do the same as the metal linkage balls had rusted to buggery inside the plastic cups so seizing the joint at both ends!!!
I must admit I’m a big fan of Mercedes engineering but was extremely dismayed to find this pathetic excuse for a link arm on what after all was a 100k car when new! (steel ball socket in a plastic cup is asking for trouble in an ‘under car’ environment.)
As a solution, I made my own out of ‘marine grade’ stainless steel with 6mm sealed rod ends (freely available on eBay) took less than 20 minuets for 2 (including tea!!) and total cost about £9.50 each.
Hopefully should now never need to revisit this issue.
Will definitely now replace the front ones as they will only be heading the same way.
Hope this helps anybody who may have similar issues.

What year is your CL ?
