Clarksons SL

The SL55 price looks a bit low?

Surely not reached the reserve - that one has got to be in the teens I would have thought.

I imagine the seller will just shill bid if it looks like the bidding is too low

No reserve!

The fact someone has put on a car without any reserve whiffs of suspicion.

Surely putting it on at a sensible and realistic price would be a better bet - they're not exactly undesirable.

I would avoid that one.

Ended at just over £10k - looks cheap?

No mention of mileage though nor number of owners. Surely Clarkson didn't own it the whole 10 years?

Good taste in alloys though - same as my CLS :)

Wasnt this the one that had a piston go recently it cracked right across the top and had a 4k+ repair bill, pretty sure was all done at a MB main dealers. Sure i was reading about it on a forum some where?

It seems to have been on five times, and despite the "no reserve", failed to meet the reserve it didn't have three times. dk: At least one "winning bidder" (shill?) didn't get it. It was finally withdrawn, from its fifth time of offering, because it was "lost or broken". Don't you just LOVE eBay...

One of the posts in the thread Gouki posted is this:

This is plainly a symptom of abuse during the running in period before the rings have expanded fully.

Excess play will have slammed the piston to the bore causing it to crack.

I would be considering legal action to recover the cost of repair from the imbecile first owner who did this, on the grounds of 'criminal damage'.

Doesn't make sense but the first owner would have been Clarkson wouldn't it? Lol - imagine trying to sue him for it.

I'm also not so sure this is such a bad buy if it is straight - given the issue with it has been repaired?

Sounds more like the poster had an issue with Clarkson - in any event it is a very unlikely scenario.

Interesting that Mercedes werent interested in a closer look at the piston. It suggests that they knew exactly what the cause was as they've seen it before.

Lol how can you sue someone for something they did to their own property?
Next Rashman will be sued by someone for over excesive cleaning of the car resulting in thinner than standard paintwork!

Tony.
