The rear tyres on our clc need replacing and the size is 235/40/18. I just wanted to know if this is the correct 18inch tyre for the rear alloys on this car. I tried to check on the sticky at the beginning of this section but I can't find this tyre size for a clc. By the way the fronts are 225/40/18.

According to mercedes specs the car should have 245/35/18 on the rear and 225/40/18 on the front, so the fronts are ok but the rears are for some reason not the correct spec. My question is If I were to purchase the correct 245/35/18 tyres will these be ok on the existing rims in place of the worn out 235/40/18's.

This will depend on the width of the rear rims, which will typically be stamped on the inside of the rim.

Have a look here:

It will show the various wheel options, including the 18" ones.

More importantly, it will show the width of the rim suitable for each tyre width (e.g. 7.5 J means 7.7" wide rim).

Check the width of your current rear rims, and you'll know if they are suitable for the tyre size you intend to use.

Another option is to enter your rim's width into the tyre size calculator, then see what tyre sizes can be supported:

By the way, when looking for info, your car's code is CL203, and it closely resembles the W203 C-Class (which it is based on).

More importantly, it will show the width of the rim suitable for each tyre width (e.g. 7.5 J means 7.7" wide rim).
Typo correction:

"More importantly, it will show the width of the rim suitable for each tyre width (e.g. 7.5 J means 7.5" wide rim)."
