Clear up the confusion... Audio20 vs Command & traffic

Ok... i've watched these threads over and over.. and had long chats with Mercedes me and my local garage (well circus might be a better statement!)

So..
I have a 65Plate B Class 180 Sport - comes with Audio 20 - but the diagnostic factory build readout shows
B54 MBCONNECT - REAL-TIME TRAFFIC DATA
so implying there is a system for sending traffic data.

I purchased a SD card of the web - version 6 maps...but up to date in software now..

If I go to Traffic alerts - it tells me there is No valid Tom tom subscription.

Recently had the "SOS Inoperative" fix applied

Mercedes havent a clue! Some people tell me it only works on Command.. others think it should but cant explain why...and Mercedes me goes through hoops and then cant work it out.. and then dont reply.

So... CAN I put traffic alerts and dynamic routing on this ...? If So...anyone got an idea?? Mercedes seem to be bugger all use at this - they dont know or want to care

Driving me bloody insane - Its the same for the Internet radio... hook up a phone to it..Bluetooth pair.. - its sits there connecting... it connects and nowt - But I read somewhere thats been discontinued...again
Dealer is clueless!

So... thoughts people?

According to what I read on the Internet, TomTom Live Traffic data should be available for Audio20 with the Garmin Map Pilot navigation software.

I suggest that you create a Mercedes Me account and register your vehicle (if you have not done so already), then log-in and go to:

Mercedes me connect United Kingdom

It should show if the TomTom Live Traffic is available for your car (even if you do not make a purchase).

Additionally, you can call the Mercedes Me helpline on 00800 9 777 77 77 - I found then to be very helpful. Have your VIN ready when calling them.

----- How bizzare... for the first time ever it actively shows "Not available for your card"...
Hey ho... back to WAZE then.

Strnagely the "parking spaces available service" is active... wouldnt know how to use that if i tried!

The dynamic traffic route planning works on my 2013 Becker map pilot audio 20, no subscription needed. Seems a backward step for the tom tom or garmin versions on the later cars.

This will be bases on the free TMC service, and not on the TomTom Live Traffic service which is subscription based.

TMC only covers main roads and the data is not always up to date. TomTom Live Traffic service covers all roads where TomTom users are driving, and in realtime (similar to Waze).

I see the difference and you are quite right, but I see lots of posts on here from people trying to get the tom tom traffic working and feeling they have to use waze or similar when it doesn't. Just seems like a not very good system.

One key difference is that Waze is free while TomTom Live Traffic (either on Mercs, or on other marques, or just on standalone SatNav GPS units) is a chargeable service.

This is potentially crucial, because the live traffic data is collected from road users who are using the device (Waze or TomTom), and so the accuracy of the data will depend to great extent on the number and spread of cars using the device and uploading the traffic data.

It would be reasonable to assume that there will be more Waze users than TomTom users, because Waze is free... and so the accuracy and quality of the Waze data is likely to be better than that of TomTom.

But these are assumptions...

I am experiencing the same issues and have been in contact with Mercedes Me Connect Support and my local dealership, the dealer advised that I do an update and if that doesn't resolve the issue to take the vehicle in to service at my local garage.

The MB Connect traffic is irrelevant to TomTom Live for Map Pilot as I got confused about that too, apparently that is for COMAND systems only. On the older Map Pilot systems you could input the licence code which is your VIN number if you have B54 on the build sheet, I am doing my best to find out how to resolve this without taking it in as I am super busy with work and only get the odd hour here and there where I may get time to sort it.
