Hi all
I have a om642 09 plate clk with 104000 miles
Had a month and have covered 700 miles a week
Currently at the end of 75 mile journey to work and back home again I’m getting a fuel/oil burning smell coming thru the air vents whilst I’m at a set of lights it lasts about 30 seconds then it’s gone again the last part of my journey is about 10 minutes of stop start traffic so can really smell it
I’ve had it In a few garages but they can’t find anything oil cooler seems good there’s no loss of oil or fuel anywhere
There’s a couple of codes I’ve seen my self which are
P2245 02 sensor
P2239 02 sensor
P0130 again 02 sensor
I did delete these but only with an ancel ad410 reader so not that good
Not sure if this would cause my smell tho
Can anyone suggest what it could be?
Anything I can check or do my self?

It could be a vapour leak, e.g. the PCV is done for and needs changing, mine would have air/mist/oil vapour coming out and was one of the first things I changed on the car when I got it 3 years ago. Or it could be vapour from the intercooler pipe that sprays a mist but doesn't always leave an obvious 'drip' of oil.

To say there's no loss of oil or fuel is probably wrong, though. There are tons of places in an OM642 that can cause this, I've had to fix a bunch of them during my ownership, unfortunately. You need to take it to an MB specialist that's been these engines a bunch of times, if you can't already.

If you're happy to look at the engine yourself, get a torch light out at night after the engine is warm/on and see if you can see anything glistening/smoking etc.

Ok I take my words back
I’ve just checked the oil and after 2 weeks it’s down to half way on the dipstick
I have done 1500 miles not sure what average oil consumption is on these engines
Must be deffo an oil leak 🤷🏻‍♂️

Oil cooler seals perhaps - common OM642 failure, but at that mileage I would also change the PCV Valve - age related failure on OM642. Stick some cardboard underneath the engine to see if you have a dripping oil leak. O2 sensor is common OM642 failure - easy to change.

Yes - but on mine I could not clear the codes for this with an icarsoft MBII, it needed something that could go deeper to reset the codes, STAR would be the obvious got to.
If you change the O2 sensor yourself gloves are recommended because it is a great one for skinning knuckles - ask me how I know

Hi all
I changed the pcv valve and the orange turbo seal which was absolutely knackered had a huge split in it and the air filter was practically non existent
Was a lot of oil below the turbo seal some fresh some old but I’m still getting the burning oil smell maybe it’s this not sure tho
Any thing else a good idea to replace?
Thanks

Mine didn't - started as a small leak reported on the MOT. Also check for leaking injector seals
