Hello, first post and first Mercedes owned :)

I've searched all over for this but can't seem to find an answer anywhere.

My Comand keeps resetting to German (language and time). I know how to set it back, I'm very used to that now! But why is it doing it?

The car is used at least once a week but not every day. The battery seems fine. Does the unit have a battery backup a bit like a PC for the BIOS?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would disconnect the battery for 1/2 hour. On the W209 CLK will have to reset the windows on reconnecting the battery, no radio codes etc.

Mine does it in my 55 every now and then. I've learnt to live with it. One of my old 203's I had did it too. I think it will be an issue with the command unit itself.

"Don't mention the war". Possibly something you said?

Sounds like CMOS battery has died. Not entirely sure where they are on the board.

Would need removing and COMAND opening up.

Thanks for all the replies! I may have a go at opening it up to look for the battery. That sounds like the most probable. It's survived all day today starting up 4 times over the day but who knows. Thanks again.

Just an update on this. I had my battery checked over at ATS while it was having its tracking done. The battery had seemed fine but I had started to notice it took a little longer to start in a morning (a second extra but enough to notice). Anyway, they said it's charge was low and it was the wrong kind of battery recommend for the car.
So I bought a new one with recommended spec.

Sorted!!

No more German! BUT it also fixed my passenger seat belt mechanism which I thought was just broken (dead) and was on my list to fix.

Thanks for all the suggestions and I hope this helps anyone else reading this with the same problem.

Low battery does mad things with these. My CLK went loopy when battery was dying. Clocks spinning on reverse, all sorts of weirdness. New battery. All sorted! Glad you got it fixed!
