Thought it might help someone in recounting my experience with the above warning. First I couldn't work out initially how the car knew the electric seat was engaged.
I removed the door side cowling (pic 1)and saw a twenty pence piece had lodged in the mechanism at that side of the seat.
The seat was only moving back when pulled up and forward so I knew the power was getting to the module at least.
Underneath the micro with had been dislodged so that the metal strip that should push in the switch was bing pushed down at the wrong angle. There is a white plastic clip on the top which holds the switch in place. I loosened the screw repositioned the switch and white clip on top and tightened it and hey presto it was fixed.
