CLK HEAD UNIT UPGRADE?

Is an after market upgrade possible to the CLK standard head unit (without too much difficulty)? I am about to acquire a 2007 CLK 200K and need something with DAB and so on.

this is something I’m looking into at the moment, I believe if you have the audio 20 it’s fairly straightforward. I’m trying to decide between a pioneer and fitting kit from Incartec or a Chinese unit from the bay at less than half the cost. They both claim to be more or less plug and play and to keep the steering wheel controls - such as they are.

Go to Erisin, Octo Core, 4 gig ram, DSP.
There is often a choice of units designed for specific models.
Easy fit, more functionality than you would expect.
Likely you will pay another £45 or so for the DAB add on. I've no experience f that so can't comment.

Yes I’ve seen the Edison units and I like the look of them, I presume the insides on these things are all much of a muchness - they’re all made in china.
my worry about the Chinese units is whether they’ll fit, the measurements and pics on the e bay ad don’t seem to match up to what’s in my car. this is the one I’m looking at

My current unit is 254 x 120 x 240 so according to them this won’t fit, but in all the pics it has a CLK dash with Audio 20 like mine with a tick

I don’t know whether to take a gamble and be ready to set to with the dremel or just go to Incartec. I didn’t spend that much money on the car so don’t really want to drop £500 on a stereo if I can help it.

Do some research here and t'other side there are plenty of fitted pictures.
Perfect fit every time.
Straight plug and play.
Add features as desired.
Most come with a Sat Nav programme, often IGO. Nowt wrong with that but I'm running Waze on ours, because it's free and Tom Tom 'aint.

But if it's via eBay you have 30 day protection if it isn't right.
Only buy from UK stock or you end up fannying about returning to China if there's an issue..

The linked HU is only 4 core and 2 gig ram.
Does it have DSP?
Anyways pass on that and go for the spec I've suggested.
There are units of 6 gig ram, but rare.
Internal memory is big enough at around 4 gig I've found, more saved and the lists are too long.

Consider larger screens, a 9" screen is easier see, but loses the side quick launch buttons. You don't need the telephone keypads, the onscreen type is more than suitable.

Thanks, I’ll keep looking. I prefer the OEM look of the Erisin units rather than the slab of screen with some of the branded ones (And saving nearly £300)!

Having spent the evening browsing various sites and this forum - I’m none the wiser. I’ve seen a few people ask if the measurements on the Erisin units are correct. All of the blurb says that couple of their units are plug and play for a CLK like mine but when I check the measurements it specifically states that the units are not suitable for cars like mine, where the top of the aperture is 254mm. Instead it directs you to a unit that will only for the older model. They even have a pic of a CLK console, with exactly the same look as mine, same audio 20 head unit etc, but then the measurements

Can anyone point towards a unit that fits into the 254mm x 120mm x 240mm, or do I just go with a branded double DIN and brackets/bezels?

I'm not familiar with the CLK, but is there a facelift version.
Many models have rounded edges that became squared at facelift.
Go by shape and it will fit.
But as said you have 30 days to return it, if via ebay.

Thanks, I dont think that one will fit either the top measurement is 220 so too small! I’ve found a UK contact for erisin so have dropped them a mail for clarification.
I’ll update when I hear back.

So that’s that, if you have an 06 CLK with an audio 20, with a 254mm top measurement then you can’t have an Erisin unit. Looks like it’s going to have to be branded
