CLK xenon headlight goes off/on

I have noticed every so often intermittently one headlight goes off and then back on within 1 second, is this likely to be a ballast or bulb failure or a wiring fault?

no bulb failure warning appears on the dash I guess this is because it comes back on so quickly to register a fault on the dash

2009 clk 200 coupe petrol

Has anyone come across this type of fault?

Haha far from a guru Abb, but I have had my fair share of experience with these xenons!

Easiest way to diagnose this is to swap the ballasts across and see if the fault follows

It does sound like a ballast issue, when xenon bulbs start to fail they go pink and it tends to happen gradually.

I’d say swap the ballasts over to be sure.

On my previous CLK I had Xenons and I had the same experience, although it only happened once or twice and then stayed off.

I found it easier to swap the Bulbs over to see if it was the actual Bulb as they were quite new. It was the Bulb. I replaced both Bulbs anyway so they matched. Problem sorted.

NB. You will have to remove the Airbox, (if a 320 - not sure about the others) to get to the Driver's side Bulb.
