clocked..?

Just reminded me of a Turkish car dealer in Germany ( no offence to anyone who is Turkish but there were a lot of Turkish car dealers!). We went to look at a Fiat Multiple Orgasm that looked as if it had been well and truly ragged. Oil on the carpets, worn seats and blowing flex on exhaust, it had a mere 69696 Km on it! The guy who did it couldn't even be bothered to move his fingers around the keypad!

And the govt want to extend mots on new cars to four years. Stupid.

As long as the crook isn't too greedy, there will be no evidence of clocking even with full MBSH.

Service history only comes in to play for your regular punter. There are ways of detecting whether MB vehicles have had mileage adjustments using specific technology - as has previously been said, there is evidence left behind throughout the vehicle if you know how to interrogate it that will show this and finance companies are using this to check returned lease vehicles with dubious mileages. MBFS for one can do this.

It's great to hear that finance companies are wising up, but will mileage adjusters just get smarter to keep one step ahead? In the way that car thieves are always cracking new anti-theft technology?

Hi,
Many years ago, a friend of mine was selling his Mk3 Cortina
He took the speedo out to wind back the mileage and noticed a piece of masking tape stuck on the back of the speedo - on it was written "oh no, not again!"
Cheers
Steve

When I have ever sold a car I always put in the mileage of the v5 slip that I have to send off, but only after the buyer has left, so if he clocks it straightaway , the logbook turns up with my mileage - will make it very awkward for him

I discovered after MOT renewed Jan 17 that 2016 mileage was entered as 344408 instead of 34408. missed it after 2016 MOT, too late to change it now. Tester the same person in 2017, his response 'oh, bit of an error there ' Not helped by no mot shown on DVLA records in 2014/ 15 as I bought the car in Uk end 2013 , exported it to Jersey where we lived. Moved back to UK Jan 15 and had 2015 MOT under the vin no before its original reg no. Allocated on DVLA WEBSITE. This does not show. Luckily have full MB service history!

It can and is done.

I sold my previous E220 AP07HHO with 312k miles on the clock in September 2012, I had it MOT'd in March 2012 at 265128.

It was MOT'd again in Dec 2012 at 79442 miles.

It then disappeared off the face of the earth.
You did nearly 47 thousand miles in six months ? Just out of interest what were you using the car for ?

Maybe (all) main dealers should be made to offer a free 'pop in' service to owners of cars of all ages at any time for a quick plug in and mileage/date check that can be sent to the DVLA.

This would only be of any use to us honest folk, but might help. Just a thought.

I was doing 90-95k miles a year running my own Chauffeur business, thankfully now retired and doing about 7k miles :o

Unfortunately as many have already commented on this thread this is rife and very difficult to detect.
Prime candidate vehicles are often high end marques used in professions that will clock up astronomical mileage in a short timeframe.
I heard recently a somewhat ironic tale regarding a person taking his car to a ''mileage correction specialist'' only to be informed it had already been clocked presumably by the previous owner:eek:
