CLS 63 AMG 2011 - AIRMATIC FAILURE (REAR) HELPPP

Well if the CLS is anything like my S320 there is a sensor above the rear axle, the sensor does not fail but the part that tells the sensor what the ride height is does, just looked at the invoice and it has Bracket £9 Nut £2.70 Rod £24.70,it is a pitta of a job even on a ramp,I got charged two hours labour and believe me it took them two hours because I was outside waiting and watching my indy and his mechanic struggle, this may not be your problem but if you can get it on a ramp worth a look,it can be bodged with a meaty once only.

The sensors are "usually" a simple potentiometer where a small arm wipes over a resistor. The change in voltage is read by the ecu as height. Anything that interferes with the potentiometers ability to move freely will confuse the ecu. Road Dirt is a common culprit also the the entire assembly is prone to rust, breakage.damage. It is worth the time and effort getting dirty, pulling it off and cleaning it all out. A can of aerosol switch cleaner can work wonders (not WD40 as it goes gooey with the mud).

Just a quick update to the thread, I got the problem fixed at Mercedes main Dealer as I didn't want to take any short cuts etc. Plus with the roadside assistance included with my car I got myself a courtesy car :-D.

Part took nearly a full month to arrive from Germany so only got my car back on Friday just gone.

Problem was the: Airmatic Compressor unit as previously mentioned by you guys of being the root of the problem.
Was pricey at the Mercedes dealership but the benefits are that you get a courtesy car and all parts and work is warranted if anything goes wrong in the future. Plus you get the nice Mercedes paperwork lol

good to hear its all done, but cmon, how much.. ?:P

The total cost with discount was £480 incl vat

I know I was expecting cost to be around £900+ but was shocked when I got the total price.

Apparently one of the reasons the cost was low because the faulty parts which are taken out are sent back for repairs and then re-sold and you get a rebate for this :-)

I'm glad I chose the dealer option :-)
