- E320CDi Estate - gone E320CDi Saloon - written off CLS 350CDi Coupé
So, I've had the CLS just over a week, and have clocked up over 600 miles, so far.
My initial thoughts are as follows:
Power and speed - even more grin inducing than the E-class E320CDi. Power seems to be delivered more smoothly in E, or when dropping a couple of cogs with the paddles. S mode is fun, and definitely more brutal than E. Certainly needs more self-control to avoid being over zealous.
Comfort - generally, at least on a par with the E-class. Back seat passengers seem to have plenty of room and enjoy having their own space.
I have to drop the driver's seat as low as it goes. One issue, on a longer journey, my right ankle/shin area gets sore from hovering over the accelerator.
Creature comforts - much better than my old E-class! Love having full BT audio integration and the better satnav system. Also like the ILS headlamps, though not had much need to use them yet. The extra leather trim is also appreciated by me, if not the cows!
Road noise - a bit louder, to be expected from the larger wheels and tyres.
Ride - seems a bit more twitchy and skittish than the E-class. On rough surfaces, it almost seems to skip about. Also, those bl@@dy potholes are very much more noticeable!
Practicality - pretty much as good as the E-class, minus one gripe - nowhere specific to store my sunglasses.
Fuel economy - no worse than the E-class, if not, possibly a little (tiny) bit better.
Looks - I certainly prefer the look of the CLS to the E-class. I like how it combines some aggression with a certain elegance. Kind of like someone well-to-do that's ready to kick your teeth down your throat.
E-class vs CLS - I'm sold! I'd take another CLS in a heartbeat.
