Hello
Not sure if this is the correct area for this post.

My Windscreen on my CLS needs to be replaced due to a crack.
My insurance uses National Windscreen for replacments.

I went to get my screen replaced last week and when i turned up they had a diffrent screen to the one that is fitted on my car.

The screen they have doesnt have any rubber on top of the screen (Roof side) the screen fitted to my car has a 2mm solid hard rubber fitted between the roof and screen. (rubber attached to screen)

After this they said they will contact there suppliers to get the correct screen for my car.

They called me back and advised me that this is the correct screen for my car and mercedes has changed the screen design.
They say that my car has the older version screen fitted and they no longer make them anymore. All there suppliers stock this screen and it will fit my car okay.
I asked them about the rubber and said i will have a 2-3 mm gap between the screen and roof,
They advised that the screen will be fully selaed and this is the only screen avalable for this car.

I called my local mercedes dealer and they say they can only provide me with a part number for my screen, they can not check if the screen design has been changed.

Now im not sure what to do.

Maybe the screen design has been changed by mercedes and this new screen could be the correct one for my car.
The screen could be 2mm bigger so there will be no gap.

Or National windscreen doesnt have the correct screen for the CLS.

Has anyone on here had there windscreen on the CLS changed?

I have attached pics of the screen on my car, Can others confirm if this is the screen they have fitted on there CLS.
If possible post pics of there screen.

My CLS is a 2006 model with the standard rain sensor and auto wipers.

Sorry about the pics, they were taken with a old phone.
Will post better pics soon.

Thanks

Mine has a rubber section which appears to be attached to the bodywork, and from this there is a rubber lip which seals against the top of the windscreen.......

Had my windscreen replaced on a 58 plate CLS by National Windscreens in October 2011 without any problem.

Thanks for your replies.

Box Brownie, the screen on your car is diffrent to the one on my one.

Seems like Mercedes has changed the part and natinaol windscreen is correct.

I'll check with the dealer if the rubber part attached to the roof is avalable seperate.

Thanks

Mine's like yours, much neater than boxbrownie's later version.

Can we see the early version close up please? I am intrigued now......

Farouq's pics show it quite well if you don't expand them but I guess it's easier if you know what you're looking at :)

Will try to get a pic later but there's a strip of rubber bonded flush along the length of the top of the screen then there's a small gap that you can't really see into, no obvious squidgy rubber seals as it appears in yours.

Need a close up to compare, that gap on mine you see between the glass and the roof is about 5-6mm.

Odd though as on the later model (mine) the strip of rubber appears to be bonded to the body not the screen and the seal seats against the glass although you need a small pointy object to get in there and move it.

I will take some better pics tonight and will try to get the part number from mercedes for the screen i have fitted.

I'm guessing b1g1an car is simialr age to my one.
Seems like the later models have a diffrent screen then.

Exactly the same age :)

Tried to get a part number form Mercedes but they wont give part numbers out.

I am going to try a windscreen from Auto Windscreen and if that is the same as National Windscreens then I have no choice but to get it replaced by then.

Will keep you updated.
