Hi, I am trying to diagnose a fault with Becker Map Pilots not working in my W204. I believe it is due to either a problem with the cradle/dock itself, or the wiring going to it. Will any code readers be able to diagnose faults in this area? Thanks.

Any ideas on diagnosing this one anyone please?

Whats wrong with it? the becker is basically a glorified SD card. When my failed I simply re flashed the software to it. I bought a "legit" ;-) copy from a seller off ebay. worked fine. But previously it wouldn't boot up

I have tied 3 different Becker units and none of them have worked. That's why I believe it's a problem with the cradle, or a wider electrical problem. But I'm unsure how to diagnose this.

First step would be to check the continuity on the wiring with a digital multimeter

Bumping this thread as I finally got round to doing a continuity test from the battery to the becker dock. I was surprised to see there was actually continuity! Anyone know where I go from here please? Has the dock itself been disabled somehow if there is power going to it but it's not detecting any becker units?

Power (and presumably Ground) is one component.

It will still need signal connections.

Ok, I know very little with auto electrics. Is there anything I can do to try and diagnose this myself before I have to take it somewhere to be looked at? Thanks

With limited knowledge not a lot. Check all plugs, connections etc are clean and make good contact.

A Mercedes specialist would be a good option.

Be careful not to waste too much time and money on this, it’s not a very good system when working - your phone is much better.

Personally speaking I always found my stand-alone TomTom sat nav was miles better than the Becker.

Thanks for the replies, I appreciate there are better navigation systems out there, I just never like the idea of knowing there are things not working on my cars. Especially when it comes to selling them on, will have a think about what I'll do going forward with this, thanks

Remove it. That returns the car to standard spec.
