This morning my car wouldn't open, even with the back-up spare key.
Tried opening the door with the metal key and putting key in ignition. NOTHING. Battery was FLAT AS A PANCAKE:crazy:

Rang Mobilo and they turned up in an hour. Connected car to external battery, still nothing. Took ten minutes to charge before it would start.

Problem was this Bl**dy thing.

The computer readout said: -
"UCP-Uper Control Panel. Folding switch panel received no authorization to open or close from the AGW,CD Changer, COMAND or audio systems. The connection between control module N72/1 (Upper control panel control unit) and component M8 (UCP carrier open and close motor) is interrupted".

In laymans terms the final stage of the alarm system, the internal movement sensor, as shown above, was not talking to the computer. Thus the computer was asking "are you set" and the unit didn't reply. The computer kept asking till the battery went FLAT.

Battery recovered, unit repaired by Mobilo technician all in under 2 hours.:bannana: NO CHARGE.:bannana:

 Glad to hear you got it all sorted in the end mate.

By the way... I thought I saw these 3 guys hanging round your car last night.

It's OK Steve they are my drinking Buddies.:D Nobody bothers me when I am with them.:D

Great news about the service, very reassuring, BUT what a nuisance.

As a point of interest, how old is your car?

Over the years we have used Mobilio twice and both times the service has been excellent.

How long were you parked up for?

This sort of problem will be easy to fix at home when they get the E Class Haynes manual out the door.:D

Seriously, what is the future for these cars (not just E Class or even MB - modern cars in general)?

I cannot see them becoming Classics - they will all have fallen victim to the scappy's crusher long before their fifteenth birthday. They will simply be beyond economic repair.

thats reassuring that its not just BMW that suffers critical battery level failures

must be a most bus thing , same thing happened to my 5 series a few months back.

i know , pain in the butt , but good the service was good. BMW took care of me within 40 min and had me in a replacement car in 2 hours. and that was on a sunday :O

Wow - detailed diagnosis ! Did they replace the little motor thing (worn itself out ?) or just repair it ?

I agree with that - except they might not last to 15! The electronics are now all so interlinked and netwrked together that it's not even as though you could simply disable whatever is faulty.

They gave me a copy of the diagnostic printout, as part of the service. Very detailed and interesting.
I don't know what he did to the unit fault, as I had to go out.

The battery was Dec 02, car delivered Jan 03.
The battery passed it's test after charging for 45min. Copy of test results also given to me.

Hi Brian,
Thanks for the reply,

Just as I thought, your car was out of its three year warranty, mobilio kicked in with the free breakdown service and you were the beneficiary. Nothing will impress those that always like to criticise, but I for one am reassured to see the warranty in action.

Go onto most other brand forums and read about how their vehicles have broken down just after three years of ownership and they have been charged full price for any breakdown or repair. (Mobilio does not usually cover parts, but sometimes you get lucky)

Regards,
John

How ironic. I had the same problem last week, although my fault was due to a failure of the battery control module for the ESP system. No I don't understand that either.

Went to use car at 7am, car totally dead - had to use manual key entry to get into the car - no alarm - oh dear. Completely toast. Phoned Mobilo. 'Call you back in 30 minutes', 1 hour later no call. Called back 'Will be with you at 12.45 or so'. Not happy !!

Ended up using Wife's car until the evening, when a very nice guy turned up, plugged in some weird device to the battery and got it started. Then had to reset all the systems, updated some of the on board software (Just like microsoft update!!) and its been fine so far. However due for a service now, and the dealer has been faxed a copy of the diagnosis report since a control module also needs to be replaced.

Love the car - wish I could just plug it into my router and update it via broadband though....

First bad experience with Mobilo life - otherwise they have been great.

Most Stealerships only have one Mobilo Sprinter van doing the rounds (so expect delays if back logs)... And none of them ever seem to be in any hurry apart from the Parts Express vans that collect deliver parts within the internal Stealership network...

Didn't they leave you a copy of the diagnostic printout?? Mine did as they should have done.

This is the second time I have used Mobilo, first was in Switzerland, where I was directed to the local dealer, as the car was a runner with Brake problems. Worked well then too.

I have used them twice, once on a Bank Holiday Sunday and they arrived in twenty minutes. The second was on a working day and it took forty minutes. On both occassions they arrived in a Vito type van with rear seats and windows.

Yep he did. But he fixed a lot of it on site, and the only part he couldn't do was the replacement of the actual module itself.
