Costs of replacing a steering lock!!

Hi all,

I have just had the unfortunate issue with my car where the steering lock has gone.

The car was not starting, no lights. Mobilo came out and said they are common in the w204 2011 c class which is a pain!

Has anyone had any similar issues? and how much it cost to fix?

Had exactly the same issue on my S204 C250 CDI '13. I had it fixed by my local indy Merc electrician total cost was €300 EUR. Local MB dealer quoted €900 EUR for it (prices in Greece).

electric motor (inside EIS system) failure is very common in W204 and W212 models. Serch will tell more is this is the case.

Thers a mob on ebay who will repair your steering lock for £180 suggest you look on there.

I decided to tap the steering column with my hand and moved the steering up and down and to my astonishment I heard the lock, unlock and when I turned the key the car started. Couldn't believe it really.

Although I am going to get it fixed might be useful if anyone else struggles with it. I was quoted £550/£650 by mercedes keys specialist. Now that it is unlocked I will see if it can be done any cheaper.

Nice one that's lucky, I heard that after so many attempts and it not working it goes into a kind of computer says no mode and all needs resetting. IIRC I paid about £700 at a main dealer in about 2016 for the lock unit and I think they changed the ignition switch too.

I was quoted about the same by the main dealer. They said to do a diagnotic first which is about £160. I might just wait and see how my lock goes. Still need to get back in contact with mercedes keys specialist to see if it can be done any cheaper.

The Mercedes indie I use charged about £450 for the job on my father-in-laws W204.
