Evening all from new old man

Have bought the daughter an A class for her 21st and am in the process of making it look as smart as possible.
It has one of the Panamara Lamella roofs which seemed to be a nice extra as it seems to work at the moment.
My problem is the condition of it. i attach a photo if anyone else has this problem.

I have so far, polished it with 2000 grit wet and dry, then Farecla G3 and buffer. all it does is make the surface smooth but i cannot get rid of the staining line you see to the left of the line as it runs along the panel, its like a layer of paint has peeled away is the only way i can describe it as you can feel it with a fingernail.
Im unsure what the panels are made from, i dont think its glass though. Looked onlne and seem to find similar things but its mainly polishing scratches out of glass or plastic using a variety of grades of wet and dry. i didnt fancy attacking it with rough stuff in case of permanent damage.roof.jpeg

Any ideas welcomed. Thankyou

Hi and welcome,I must admit I always thought that those roofs were actually laminated glass, could there be a problem with the lamination giving that line in the roof,

Hi there.
Well the only thing i did was tap it with a coin and glass seems to have a bright tappy sound if that makes sense but this is a very dull thudding, unless its some kind of special glass, seems not a lot of info online about them other than they dont work, leave it shut and never open it

Its a bit like when you scrape of some car laquer with a fingernail , it seems to shred into tiny flakes. Maybe it is a glass layer after all.

I remember seeing a video, of a solid glass panoramic roof retrofit, in place of a non-working lamella one, although that would probably cost as much as the car itself ...

Well the fact that you can feel this line on the roof could mean that the very top coat of whatever has started to fail, you have used wet and dry on it,with no success, maybe a slightly more courser grit,or maybe something like Silvo or Duraglit, both old fashioned cleaning products but both quiet course, maybe try some on the line gently and wipe it off to see if the line has moved back a little,if so do the whole panel, but I only offer this as I cannot think of anything else that might work, what can be found out about these roofs on line is practically nothing, except they are not very good and most people do not use them, maybe the best course of action is to leave well alone
