Not sure if this is the correct forum for this question, but the roof on my SL creaks when I go over bumps or round corners (fast). I was thinking could it be the rubber seals moving against each other or the frame? If so, is there a product that I could safely apply to them to maybe reduce the noise.
Any help appreciated, and I will report back if successful !

Try Einszett Gummi Pflege Rubber Care Stick 100ml on ebay.

Worked a treat on the wife's previous convertible, a Megane C C. Totally silenced it.

I've had this on other cars. WD40 on the rubber seals worked well for me.

Doesn't WD40 soften and ultimately damage rubber?

That's what worries me, something that might be sticky to attract more grime and ultimately might also degrade the rubber. Thanks for the tips.

Ive been told by my mechanic that silicon spray is good for this. Ive tried it as although I didnt have a specific noise was told that it would make everything more silent and provide better insulation from outside noise. It didnt make a huge difference to be honest but it can also be used on the rubber bushes as well and worked an absolute treat in silencing the few creaking and small knocks I was getting from all the bushes under the car.

My ARB bush is still going strong after it was first knocking in December.

I was under the impression that WD40 cuaed runner deterioation.

I had this on our clk 350 Sport cabroilet and got some Halfords silicone spray at £3.95 and applied to all seals and roof edging at it worked a treat and stopped the noise.

Having owned a few elderly cars with creaks and groans silicone grease has been better than silicone spray as the spray seems to "dry" out and needs regular re-applications.
The grease is also very good on old door, window and targa seals.

I confirm that silicone grease is great for rubber seals, etc. I apply the stuff twice a year on all the visible rubber strips and never a squeak and keeps them nice and flexible all the time too :thumb: Spray is good for those difficult places to get to

My mechanic cleaned and greased the arb bushes that lasted 2 months before them knocked again. This compares to 1 month that the silicon spray lasts for to give some reference. its good to remember though that it took the mechanic 1/2 hour to take off, clean and degrease where as it takes me 10 seconds to angle the straw into all the small gaps.
