Cruise control/limit problem on C320

My limiter light on the control stalk wont go off since car was cleaned. I hoped that it would "dry out" & start working. I fixed it with black tape over the light.
Unfortunately it seems that "cruise control is not working & its stuck in "limiter" mode.
Anyone got any thoughts on what I should do.

Have you tried pushing on the end of the stalk to cancel the limiter?

How have you tried to switch it off?
